A woman has been jailed for an arson after setting fire to a rough sleeper's bedding and belongings which spread to a nearby shop.

Lindsey Dewey, 41, of no fixed address has been found guilty of two counts of arson in the Montague Centre, Worthing, at 12.25am on Saturday October 6.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue attended and found the fire to the bedding and belongings had spread to the doorway of the Laura Ashley shop in the centre. Dewey was identified from CCTV, arrested and later charged.

She was sentenced at Lewes Crown Court on Friday (January 11) to 32 weeks for each count, to run concurrently. She has also been given a restraining order not to contact the victim, whose bedding she set fire to, for 10 years.

Detective Inspector Jason Hazzard said: "Thankfully no-one was hurt in the fire but the belongings and part of the shop's stock was destroyed in the blaze."
