A man has been arrested by detectives investigating the rape of a woman on the seafront in East Worthing on Sunday evening 8 September.
The 19-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday evening (10 September), on suspicion of the rape, and is currently in custody for interview and further enquiries.
The 26-year-old victim was walking along New Parade off the A259 Brighton Road, East Worthing, near the Splash Point building site, shortly before 10.30pm on Sunday when she was approached by a man who initially asked directions but then took her to the beach and raped her.
The man then left the area on foot.
The woman sought help from a passer-by and the police were informed. She is currently receiving support from specialist officers.
Detective Sergeant Sally Hodges of the West Sussex Safeguarding Investigations Unit said; "Our investigation is continuing.
